Experience the Wenatchee Pop Culture Convention
With the proliferation of media, Pop culture has infiltrated the zeitgeist of our time. Lovers of science fiction, fantasy, comics and role-playing games naturally have an abundance of choice to meet their various desires for novelty. For instance, exhibitions such as Comic Con have exploded in popularity over recent years, with superheroes being glamorised in growing fashion.
Superheroes are In
Spiderman, Superman, and Batman (among others) are no longer are a fad to be entertained exclusively by children. They’ve become integral cultural figures, which one way or another, shape our way of seeing the world.
Movie after Movie over the last decade, from DC and Marvel, has led to soaring box office profits and a new generation of superhero fans across the world. While comics may no longer be fashionable, perhaps in part due to the growing usage of smartphones (and other forms) of electronic media, they’ve transcended the medium.
There’s more than just Comic-Con
Comic-Con is just one of the few events that celebrate pop culture, though it may be the most famous, there are plenty of other conventions. Take for instance the Wenatchee Pop culture convention, which brings together an assortment of costumes, balancing scooters, gaming tournaments, and time machines. This year, more than 400 people attended the event – even though it was the first of its kind!
It’s particularly ideal if you’re part of a family with young children, as the event is kid-friendly, in every sense. So for all the geeky parents out there that want to get the whole family involved next year, you don’t have to fret. After all, at the event you’ll find:
- A costume contest for children, with prizes!
- A real life Power Ranger
- A family friendly Magic Show
- Several different children’s authors and illustrators will be at the event
- A bunch of stuffed animals, animal toys
- A Disney and DreamWorks animator
What you can expect
Guest stars this year included Steve Blum, one of the best-known voice actors in the world, who play Wolverine in the x-men TV series. Interestingly, in 2012, he was inducted into the Guinness book of world records as the most prolific voice actor in cartoons and video games combined.
Even if you’re not as fascinated by pop culture as you used to be, there’s a part of you that still does. Perhaps you reminisce about some of the video games you used to play for hours on end, or the cartoons you used to watch with your playmates. At the Wenatchee Pop culture convention, you can revisit that sense of magic you used to experience so often.
Interestingly, you’ll be able to enjoy an off road Segway at the event. These Segways capture the fun and delight at to be had at this event like few things can. If you want to bring some of the magic back with you from this event, consider purchasing a balancing scooter – you’ll be glad you did.
Conclusion
While the event was hosted on the 8th April, we sincerely hope that you find the time to experience the event next year. It takes place at the Town Toyota Centre – which is likely to be the venue for the next couple of years at the least. With guest stars, vendors, artists, games panel discussions, prizes, cosplays, and many other activities – this isn’t an event you want to miss again. The date for next year’s event will be announced soon.
